Rifle Company Commander

After spending 3 months as S-3 (Air), I took command of C Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry. I admit to being thrilled and scared at the same time.
You'll get some idea from these pictures of what it was like to be a "Grunt" out in the field. My Company's operations took place in the rice paddy lowlands as well as the mountains next to the Cambodian border. The difference between the two areas as far as terrain, weather, logistics and infantry tactics is significant.
As a matter of respect, I avoided taking pictures of grisly scenes, especially of dead enemy soldiers.
I took the picture (below) as the sun rose over my hooch. It was time for Reveille.
